The Osprey Bus

The Osprey Bus links Keswick with a round Bassenthwaite Lake public transport route taking in the Whinlatter Exhibition and the Dodd Wood viewpoint .

  • Runs Saturday and Sunday 12 April to 20 July 2008, then daily until 31 August 2008
  • Extra days 5 May and 26 to 30 May 2008
  • Six daily lake circuits, taking alternate anticlockwise and clockwise routes
  • Early direct service from Keswick to Whinlatter.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is at Penrith 18 miles from the Dodd View Point from where a number of bus connections run to Keswick, Dodd and Whinlatter. For rail timetables visit National Rail Enquiries or phone them on 08457 48 49 50.

Bus

From Penrith, Workington or Cockermouth - Monday to Saturday, not Sundays, the Stagecoach X4 is a two hourly bus service which calls in at Mirehouse (Dodd Viewpoint stop) In addition the Stagecoach X5 service run at least hourly, Mon-Sat, and 7 times daily on Sundays and Bank Holidays to and from Keswick. Similarly the Stagecoach X50 services runs from Penrith to Keswick and back.

From Keswick - The 77 and 77a service runs from Keswick to Whinlatter Visitor Centre via Borrowdale and Buttermere. For the shortest trip catch the 77 from Keswick to Whinlatter and the 77a from Whinlatter back to Keswick.
